Everyone can use a new friend! In this fun, creative and open-ended craft we are creating new animal pals using only some construction paper and glue! What type of fun friend can you make?
You will need
- Construction Paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Pencil crayons, crayons or markers (optional)
Craft Instructions
1) Take the piece of construction paper you are making your animal body out of and fold it in half along the long side of the paper. Then cut your paper along the fold.
2) Now we are going to use one of these half pieces to make our animal! Use your Glue Stick and apply glue to half of your freshly cut construction paper.
3) Then roll your piece of paper up into a tube, making sure to press hard as you roll!
4) Once it is rolled, take the top of your tube and fold down the edges to create a point on one side of your paper roll. This will be your bird’s beak or animal head.
5) Use a pencil to mark out the different pieces you need to make your creature. These may be a beak, eyes or wings. We made a Blue Jay and a Pterodactyl! Here you can see how we traced out the body and head of the blue jay on white, and we used a white Colorations crayon to mark our beak on the black paper.
6) Once you have your creature’s face ready, use your glue stick to attach it to your paper roll.
7) Once you have your creature’s face ready, use your glue stick to attach it to your paper roll.
8) Now you can add any additional pieces to make your Construction Paper Critter your own. We added a 3D beak and a red point to our Pterodactyl’s face and a pair of wings to our Blue Jay. We used a black Colorations Marker to add the feather lines to the wings!
Congratulations! You just made yourself a fun and unique new friend! Now it’s time to use your imagination and give your new friend a name. Where are they from? Do they have a family? Try and think of as many things you can and make your new Paper Roll Pal a member of the family!
